Hebraic Musing – What Happened Before “In the beginning”?
Before the
beginning there was a real war. And WE
ARE STILL IN IT! And it is a matter of
life or death! Both God and Satan have a
plan for us; which one are we going to serve?
So let’s understand the war and the enemy in order to be
victorious. To do so, we need to look
way back through the Bible times and even look at events before “In the
beginning” because that’s where the Battle of the Ages began. Here’s some background:
Jesus told us how
old He was. “And now, O
Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before
the world was.” John 17:5 NKJV*
And that was echoed in John 1:1-3
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All
things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was
made.” Melchizedek was a
pre-incarnate Christ of whom we are told He is “without father, without
mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end
of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.”
Hebrews7:1 Jesus himself said “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the
End...” Rev.22:13
The LORD reminded
Job of His works even before “Creation.”
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell
Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you
know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations
fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars
sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:4-7
Did “the Fall”
begin with Lucifer? A limited number of Angels were created by
God to have fellowship in Heaven; but angels were not given the ability
to reproduce. Lucifer was an angel
created by God and his musical skills and leadership elevated him to a popular
role in the Heavens. Then what happened?
God created man and He gave man
the ability to reproduce, to “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the
earth and subdue it; have dominion over ... every living thing that moves on
the earth.” Gen.1:28
Why did God create
Man? Is there a parallel in the familiar
story of Geppetto who made a puppet, Pinocchio?
But he was not satisfied with a cute obedient puppet; he really wanted a
real “Boy” who could think, and most important, could make a choice to
love him. Why did God create you and me?
Lucifer
was jealous of man’s ability to reproduce? Isaiah 14:12 starts a detailed description of
God’s charge against Lucifer. “How
you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down
to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your
heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above
the stars of God...” and more! Maybe
Lucifer’s rebellion the “Original Sin”?!?!
And
we first read of the Battle in Genesis 2&3. The LORD God created an idyllic world for His
creation; everything was “Good” (declared 11 times). Then in chapter 3 we hear of a cunning and
evil creature planting doubt while talking to Eve (& Adam). Satan starts by questioning God’s Word. “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of
every tree of the garden’?” And then
Eve answers and adds “nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” And the deception continues with Adam, to
whom God had previously given the instructions, and he’s presumably listening
and not exercising his role! You know
the rest of Chapter 3.
SUMMARY – Satan is
jealous because we are over him and will be judging him in the final judgement.
Points
to ponder
How important is man’s ability to reproduce? What does God want?
How many Christian churches are questioning, modifying and/or
adding to God’s Word?
God and Satan both have a plan for us. Who are we going to serve?
Does this make us more serious about talking to “Others” about
their Salvation?
Warning – Understanding the “Battle of the Ages” will change your
priorities.
Like
it or not, you are in a life or death battle for your eternal soul.
