Musing - What a contrast between the OT and the NT!!!

Hebraic Musing - What a contrast between the OT and the NT!!!

OT - We serve a Majestic God in the OT!  “And when the blast of the trumpet sounded … Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai,”  Ex 19:19-20 NKJV      But in the NT we find out He is “Our Father”!  In Matthew 6:9 Jesus teaches us to pray to “Our Father”.

OT - The first event is in Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.      But in the NT the end is described. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, … both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” 2 Peter 3:10

OT - The world was in Spiritual Darkness - Psalm 82:5 “They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable.”.        But in the NT John 8:12 says we can enjoy being in the Light. “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

OT - Satan was Victorious in Genesis 3:6.  “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, … she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband… and he ate.”       But in the NT  Satan was defeated in Revelation 20:10 “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire.”

OT - We were Cursed with Sin in Genesis 3:17-19  “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:“Cursed is the ground for your sake;”         But in the NT we received the remedy in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

OT - Death reigned after Genesis3:19 “Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”          But in the NT we are promised eternal life. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24

OT - Our Sacrifices for sin were Bloody in Exodus 12:6-7 “Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it (the Lamb) at twilight.  And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts…”.       But in the NT the Lamb of God eliminated our need for bloody sacrifices.  “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

OT - We were in Bondage according to Proverbs 5:22 “His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin.”         But in the NT Liberty is available. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2

OT - We had many Outward Ceremonies requiring compliance in Hebrews 9:9-10  “It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience— concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.”        But in the NT an inward experience is available. “And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32

OT - And most important, Paradise was Lost in Genesis 3:23 “therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden…”.       But in the NT we regained a promise of Paradise in Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.”

 Point to ponder

The OT focuses on God's covenant with the Israelite people,
      while the
NT centers on the life and teachings we all need regarding Jesus Christ as our LORD.

I’m a new creation; I'm a brand-new man. Old things are passed away; I am born again.
     More than a conqueror.  That's who I am.  I'm a new creation.  I'm a brand-new man.
