Hebraic Musing – How On Earth Can God……?
Let’s
look more closely at the significance of the words in 2 Timothy 3:7 “always learning and never able to come to
the knowledge of the truth.” NKJV This
accusatory statement becomes real when we realize we’ve been following the often
amazing but not yet understood discoveries in the cosmos in which we exist. The new powerful telescopes now traveling in
space are able to look back in time to billions of years ago and see what the
universe looked like just after it was created. Black holes from which not even light can
escape. Dark matter that cannot be seen,
measured or quantified, yet is a reality and packs the universe that we once
thought was just empty vacuum. The
existence of “gravity” which is everywhere, but we really don’t know what it
is, where it comes from or why it exists.
Astounding!?!? The problem is that the more we know about
the world and the universe we live in the less we understand our universe; in
fact, quite the opposite of our expected and desired result!
Yet. the
scientific community today dismisses Biblical explanations for all these
mysteries as conjured up stories by ancients who didn’t have the benefit of our
current knowledge or scientific instrumentation. And in this “paralysis of analysis” suffered
by the scientific community is the simple, basic question: “How can God control
all of this?” The answer is simple. A - Because He is God; period! He is not subject to the “laws of physics.” He created them and everything else at His
will, and God has already told us clearly that we won’t understand any of this
because “as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher
than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9 NKJV
A typical
non-believer’s basic questions might be “How can God possibly know and care
about the billions of people He has created?” Yes, billions of people are created by God in
an ongoing cycle of life, so how can any Being keep track of them individually,
and communicate with them all simultaneously without limit or restriction? The Bible tells us that God loves ALL mankind,
not just the ones that come to Him for mercy. He loves the sinner as much as the saved. No one is exempt from His care. Scripture tells us God desires “…not
willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2
Peter 3:9 Almighty God does not desire that any one of
His human creations should perish and be denied eternal life in His kingdom.
The answer to “How
can God?” can be described by using the illustration of the human body, which
He also created! And also, astronomers
believe there are about 100 billion stars in our galaxy, The Milky Way; not the
whole known universe, just our little galaxy in the midst of the cosmos. Medical researchers say that there are an
estimated 7 TRILLION nerve endings in the human body. So, to the question of how can God have an
active, personal relationship with the billions of people He’s created and are
living? Have you noticed that if just
ONE of our nerve endings is irritated, it immediately communicates its
dysfunction and problem to our brain, telling us we hurt, are cold, are hot or
whatever the problem. Our nerves are
connected to our ruling brain, which accepts communication and we react to the
problem accordingly.
God is the same
way with us; we are connected to Him. We
live in His consciousness. We are part
of Him. The life that keeps us breathing
came from Him, it is not our own. Our
spirit is paired like a Bluetooth connection to His Spirit. So when something goes awry in our lives, it
is immediately noted by God, our Father, and He responds accordingly whether it
is physical pain, distress, tension, worry, depression or any number of other
afflictions that we encounter in our human existence. What ever it is, God knows about it as soon as
it occurs, if not before! Why? Because it’s HIS life we’re living and our
“nerves” are directly connected to His sensitivity toward us.
Christ is in us,
and we are in Christ. Scripture declares
that: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 Every minute detail of our human and physical
existence is known by Him. Sometimes,
our discomfort is a trial, not an attack and we have to suffer through to
strengthen our faith and reliance on the Lord.
Back to the
question, “How Can God?” The answer is: because
He is the great I AM, the unlimited, eternal, all-knowing and loving Creator.
Points to Ponder
What we don’t understand,
He does.
How can God do what we
deem to be impossible?
Is it to our advantage to
trust His knowledge and wisdom rather than our own?
He’s watching us all the
time. Is that good news or bad news?

ORIGINAL
I was recently
reading in 2 Timothy when verse 7 in chapter 3 caused me to stop and
contemplate the words “. . . ever learning and never coming to the full
knowledge of the truth. ” That hit me hard because for years I have been
following the oft amazing and yet not understood discoveries in the cosmos in
which we exist. The new powerful
telescopes now traveling in space are able to look back in time to billions of
years ago and see what the universe looked like just after it was created. Black holes from which not even light can
escape. Dark matter that cannot be seen,
measured or quantified, yet is a reality and packs the universe that we once
thought was just empty vacuum. Dark
energy. . . a force that cannot be grasped yet exists with the only proof is
how it influences other celestial bodies that we can see and measure. The existence of “gravity” which is
everywhere, but we really don’t know what it is, where it comes from or why it
exists.
Then there’s the
absolutely astounding relatively new science of Quantum Mechanics. . . the
ability for a particle of matter to occupy two separate locations
simultaneously and react instantly to an applied force without regard to
distance or time! And the grand daddy of them all, the laboratory proven
astonishment that reality only occurs when it is being observed. In other words, a beam of light burned a hole
in a target when it was being watched by people, but did NOT burn a hole in the
target when it was activated with no one there to see it!
Astounding? Yes. And the problem it presents is that the more
we know about the world and universe we live in, the less we understand it. . .
quite the opposite of the desired result.
With admitted
ignorance, the scientific community today dismisses Biblical explanations for
all these mysteries as just so many conjured stories by ancients who didn’t
have the benefit of our current knowledge or scientific instrumentation. And embedded in this “paralysis of analysis”
suffered by the scientific community is the simple, basic question: “How can
God control all of this?” Or, just “How can God do anything?” The answer is
simple: Because He is God. Period. He is not subject to the “laws of physics,” He
creates them-- at His will, and He tells us clearly that we won’t understand
any of this because “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My
thoughts higher than your thoughts and My ways higher than your ways,” (Isa. 55:9).
Reducing the scale
of this huge question of how God can do what we deem impossible, one of a
non-believer’s basic questions is “How can God possibly know and care about the
billions of people He creates?” Yes, billions of people are created by God in
an ongoing cycle of life, so how can ANY Being keep track of them individually,
and communicate with them all simultaneously without limit or restriction? The
Bible tells us that God loves ALL mankind, not just the ones that come to Him
for mercy. He loves the sinner as much
as the saved. So no one is exempt from
His care. Scripture tells us that He
desires that not even ONE of His human creations should perish and be denied
eternal life in His kingdom.
The answer to “How
can God?” can best be described by using the illustration of the human body. Astronomers believe there are about 100
billion stars in our galaxy, The Milky Way. Not the known universe, just our little galaxy
in the midst of the cosmos. And medical
researchers say that there is an estimated 7 TRILLION nerve endings in the
human body. So we have in ourselves
literally more nerves than there are stars in our galaxy. WAY more. So. . . back to the question of how can God
have an active, personal relationship with the billions of people He’s created
and are living? Well, if just ONE of our nerve endings is irritated, it
immediately communicates its dysfunction and problem to our brain, telling us
we hurt, are cold, are hot or. . . you get the idea. Our nerves are connected to our ruling brain,
which accepts the communication and reacts to it, sending a reaction to apply
cold, hot, or take some medicine to alleviate the problem. . . or to seek a
doctor’s help. The brain accepts the
message from the nerve and responds to it with a direction of what to do about
it. . . scratch the itch, apply pressure to the ache.
God is the same
way with us. We are connected to Him. We literally live in His consciousness. We are part of Him. The life that keeps us breathing is coming
from Him, it is not our own. Our spirit
is paired like a bluetooth connection to His Spirit. So if something goes awry in our lives, it is
immediately noted by God, our Father, and He responds accordingly. It can be physical pain, distress, tension,
worry, depression or any number of other afflictions that occasion the human
existence. What ever it is, God knows
about it as soon as it occurs. Why?
Because it’s HIS life we’re living and our “nerves” are directly connected to
His sensitivity toward us. Christ is in
us, and we are in Christ Scripture declares. And because of that, every minute detail of
our human and physical existence is known by Him. Sometimes, our discomfort is a trial, not an
attack and we are required to suffer through it to strengthen our faith and
reliance on the Lord.
So, to the
question, “How Can God?” the answer is: Because He is. The great I AM. Unlimited, eternal, all-knowing and loving
Creator. What we don’t understand, He
does. It is to our advantage to trust
His knowledge and wisdom and not our own
